Irvine Weekly: Herb & Ranch Is The New Restaurant Making Waves In The City
In an exclusive interview with Sam Machado of the Irvine Weekly, Top Chef star Brian Malarkey talks about crafting a unique, refreshing dining experience with his Herb & Ranch restaurant.
“One day you can have a poke bowl, one day you can have the press sandwich or something off the grill, or the incredible salad. And it’s done to be really quick and really healthy and affordable, so just so many high points … There’s always a special, you can get in there really quick and get out fast and feel good.”
Herb & Ranch is a recent culinary venture from Brian Malarkey, a finalist on the third season of Top Chef. Having found success with multiple restaurants in San Diego, Hawaii, Austin, and Las Vegas, he set his sights firmly on treating Irvine residents to a dining experience unlike any other. The restaurant is located at the University of California Irvine and is open to the public.
Malarkey’s primary motivation for creating Herb & Ranch was to “give everyone the chance to try out some great variety.” The result is a stunning, rustic-style food hall serving quality dishes that cater to a wide variety of palates.
The restaurant has a spacious, well-lit indoor setting and each food station is well designed so guests already have an idea of what kinds of delicacies it serves in one glance. The outdoor area is grassy with a picnic-style setting — perfect for diners wanting a quick bite or sip their breakfast coffee while enjoying California’s beautiful sunshine.
For Malarkey, Herb & Ranch is all about both quality and quantity. Guests are treated to a one-of-a-kind experience that has them wanting to come back for more.
“It’s the best deal in town … it’s the freshest quality and the design is over the top; it’s beautiful. Irvine really stepped it up for the customers and it’s fantastic and I hope you get the opportunity to come check it out.”
In terms of the menu, guests can expect a medley of dishes inspired by top-quality cuisines from around the world. Some of the house favorites include freshly made poke bowls, avocado toast, herb-roasted chicken breast, hot and cold sandwiches, salads, and various assortments of grilled meats and seafood.
